Edward Hald

Swedish, 1883 - 1980
Edward Hald (1883-1980) was a Swedish artist and designer known for his work in glass art and design. He was born in the Swedish province of Skåne and studied at the Konstfack School of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm.

Hald worked for the Swedish glass company Orrefors from 1917 to 1947, where he became known for his innovative designs and techniques. He collaborated closely with the master glassblower Simon Gate to create a range of decorative and functional glass objects, including vases, bowls, and stemware.

Hald is perhaps best known for his series of engraved glass designs, which he created in the 1920s and 1930s. These designs were characterized by their delicate, intricate patterns and their use of subtle colors and textures. Hald was a master of the intaglio technique, which involved carving designs into the surface of the glass and then filling them with color.

In addition to his work in glass, Hald was also a talented painter and graphic artist. His designs and artwork continue to be highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of Scandinavian modern design.
