Ferdinando Meccani

Italian
Ferdinando Meccani (1937–2018) was an Italian architect, designer, and artist born in Cascina, Tuscany. Raised in a family workshop, he studied at the State Art Institute of Cascina and then the Institute of Art in Florence.

In the 1960s, he transformed his family’s carpentry firm into a creative laboratory, which evolved into Meccani Design, guiding its production of bespoke furnishings through the 1970s.

During the 1980s, Meccani Design collaborated with major figures in modern design, producing furniture and restoration work with a bold, geometric aesthetic grounded in high-quality wood craftsmanship.

Meccani’s pieces are known for their striking use of wood grain, confident right-angle geometry, and subtle details such as hidden compartments and clean joinery. His legacy continues to influence collectible Italian modern furniture and design-aware interiors worldwide.
