Jack Lenor Larsen

Jack Lenor Larsen is an American textile designer, author, and collector. He was born on August 5, 1927, in Seattle, Washington. Larsen graduated from the University of Washington and then went on to study weaving at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. He later traveled to Japan to study with a master weaver and textile designer, working on traditional Japanese looms.
In 1952, Larsen founded his own textile design studio in New York City, which became known for its innovative use of color, texture, and materials. His work was highly influential in the world of textiles and interior design, and he received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to designing fabrics, Larsen also designed furniture and home accessories.
Larsen has written several books about textiles and design, including "The Dyer's Art: Ikat, Batik, Plangi," "The Art Fabric: Mainstream," and "Beyond Craft: The Art Fabric." He has also been a collector of textiles and art from around the world, and has served as a trustee or board member for several museums and cultural organizations.
