Lars Holmström (1929-2016) was a Finnish furniture designer who played a significant role in the development of modern Finnish design during the mid-20th century. He was known for his minimalist and functional approach to design, and his work was characterized by its simplicity, clean lines, and use of high-quality natural materials.
 
Holmström trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at the Helsinki School of Art and Design. He went on to work for several leading Finnish furniture manufacturers, including Artek and Asko, and established his own design studio in 1962.
 
Holmström's designs were particularly popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and he played a significant role in establishing Finland as a leading center of modern furniture design during this period. He was particularly known for his work with bentwood, and his designs often incorporated sculptural and organic elements.
 
Holmström's work has been exhibited in several major museums and galleries around the world, and his designs continue to be highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. He was awarded several design awards during his career, including the Finnish State Design Prize and the Pro Finlandia Medal.
