Robert John Thornton

Robert John Thornton was an English physician and artist, best known as a botanical illustrator and author. He was born in 1768, studied medicine at St Thomas' Hospital in London, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1794. He was a popular lecturer in London and wrote several books on botany and medicine. He was also a noted artist, producing numerous illustrations for his books, as well as for other publishers. His works are held in the collections of the British Museum and the Natural History Museum, London.
