Roland Wilhelmsson (1928-2017) was a Swedish furniture designer known for his innovative use of materials and his minimalist approach to design. He was one of the most prominent furniture designers of the post-war period in Sweden, and his work was characterized by its simplicity, elegance, and functionality.
 
Wilhelmsson studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, and went on to work for several leading Swedish furniture manufacturers, including Nordiska Kompaniet and Källemo. He established his own design studio in the 1960s, where he continued to produce furniture designs that were characterized by their clean lines, use of natural materials, and attention to detail.
 
Wilhelmsson was particularly known for his work with laminated wood, which he used to create chairs, tables, and other pieces of furniture that were both lightweight and strong. He also experimented with other materials, including leather, glass, and metal, and was known for his ability to combine different materials in innovative and unexpected ways.
 
Wilhelmsson's work has been exhibited in several major museums and galleries around the world, and his designs continue to be highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. He was awarded several design awards during his career, including the Swedish Design Prize and the Lunning Prize.
