Artifort

Dutch
Artifort is a legendary Dutch furniture manufacturer celebrated for its innovative, artful approach to modern design. Founded in 1890 by Jules Wagemans as an upholstery workshop in Maastricht, the company expanded under his son, Henricus Wagemans, into a full-scale furniture factory with a showroom in Amsterdam by the late 1920s. The name Artifort, derived from the Latin words for “art” and “strength,” reflects the brand’s enduring commitment to form, function, and comfort. Beginning in the 1950s, Artifort entered a golden era under the creative direction of Kho Liang Ie, who introduced iconic designers such as Pierre Paulin, Theo Ruth, and Geoffrey Harcourt. Their visionary work, including sculptural seating like the Mushroom, Orange Slice, and Ribbon chairs, helped define mid-century modern style. Today, Artifort remains at the forefront of contemporary design, collaborating with global talents and producing timeless pieces that are both collectible and functional.
