Description
Large and impressive pair of French Old Paris porcelain decorative urn vases, made in France in the mid to late 19th century and finely executed with hand-painted enamel decoration and rich gilt detailing. These elegant vases are crafted in the traditional urn form and reflect the refined decorative taste associated with Old Paris porcelain production of the 1800s.
Each vase is beautifully hand-painted on both sides with still life compositions of flowers and foliate motifs, rendered in soft and soothing hues against a white ground. The painted reserves are surrounded by extensive gilt decoration, with elaborate gold ornamentation applied throughout the body, neck, handles, and base, giving the pieces a luxurious and highly decorative appearance. The vases are formed with classical proportions, featuring a rounded body, flared neck, and two side handles, all resting on squared footed bases that provide stability and emphasize the formal design.
The quality of the porcelain, the finely executed enamel painting, and the heavy gilding demonstrate the high level of French craftsmanship typical of Old Paris manufacture during the 19th century, when such decorative objects were produced for elegant interiors and display. Because of their large scale and refined decoration, this pair is very versatile and can be placed on a mantel, console, or cabinet, and easily complements both traditional and eclectic décor.
Each vase measures approximately 22 inches high, 14.5 inches wide, and 9 inches deep, making them an impressive and substantial pair suitable for statement display. Overall in good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, and free of chips, cracks, or repairs. -
