Description
Elegant antique French Sèvres porcelain covered decorative urn, made in France in the late 19th century and finely executed with hand-painted decoration and richly cast bronze mounts. This refined piece reflects the classic taste of French porcelain mounted with ormolu, a style widely appreciated for its elegance and craftsmanship. The urn is of bottle-shaped form, finished in a deep cobalt blue ground with raised gilt gold decoration throughout. The exterior features an exquisitely hand-painted cityscape scene depicting a castle, trees, river, and figures in period attire, rendered in soft naturalistic tones and framed by gilt ornamentation. The painting is carefully detailed and contrasts beautifully with the rich cobalt ground, enhancing the overall decorative effect.
The piece retains its unattached cover, surmounted by a finely cast bronze pinecone finial, and is fitted with two side handles that complement the classical form. The urn rests on a footed bronze base, adding stability and emphasizing the elegant proportions. The combination of porcelain, gilding, and bronze mounts demonstrates the high quality of French decorative arts of the late 19th century. This is a very versatile decorative object, ideal for display on a mantel, console, or cabinet, and suitable for both traditional and eclectic interiors. The urn measures approximately 26 inches high, 11 inches wide, and 9 inches deep.
Overall in good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. -
