Description
Large Chinese agate and nephrite flower model in a cloisonné enamel basket
Chinese, 20th Century
Height 29cm, width 40cm, depth 29cm
This elegant 20th century Chinese creation features a basket filled with a stunning array of hardstone flowers.
The chrysanthemums, masterfully carved from different types of agate, are meticulously crafted with petals that gracefully spread outward, capturing the full bloom of each flower. The yellow and orange beads serve as the delicate stigmas, adding a touch of colour. Interspersed among the flowers are a few buds, adding contrast and enhancing the overall composition. In Chinese symbolism, chrysanthemums are especially meaningful, representing joy and vitality. Lush, deep green nephrite leaves surround the flowers, enriching the arrangement.
Supporting the floral arrangement is a cloisonné enamel basket, which features an arm extending over the flowers. The basket’s body is decorated with swirling blue and green patterns, complemented by yellow and pink blossoms. These vibrant designs are framed by a rich black enamel backdrop. Gilded accents add a touch of elegance to the piece.
This finely crafted flower display, rich in cultural symbolism, would make a delightful and striking addition to any home or collection. - More Information
