Description
A beautiful pair of tall Italian apothecary jars with covers, crafted in Italy during the mid-20th century and showcasing the elegant decorative glassmaking traditions of the period. Each jar is mouth-blown in transparent cobalt blue glass, creating a rich jewel-like color and luminous quality that is beautifully complemented by elaborate hand-painted and gilt decoration.
The cylindrical bodies are embellished with a central shield-shaped reserve surrounded by delicate floral and foliate ornament, all carefully hand-painted over the deep cobalt blue ground. Fine gilded details further accentuate the decorative motifs and contours of each vessel, giving the jars a sophisticated and luxurious appearance. The combination of the vibrant cobalt glass, classical shield reserves, floral decoration, and gilded accents creates a particularly striking decorative effect. Each apothecary jar measures approximately 13 3/4 inches high and 5 3/4 inches in diameter, giving the pair an impressive vertical presence while remaining versatile enough for display on a console, mantel, cabinet, or étagère. They can be displayed together as a coordinated pair or individually among a collection of fine Italian glass and decorative objects.
These distinctive jars are a wonderful example of mid-20th-century Italian decorative glass, combining traditional forms with colorful hand-painted ornamentation and refined gilding. They are in great condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. -
