Description
Dhurrie rugs are unique and culturally important flat-woven textiles that in India serve a variety of purposes depending on their size, pattern and material. Although the concept of a dhurrie is slightly different from that of a rug, modern rugs of the dhurrie type are most frequently regarded and used as floor coverings. The almost square modern Indian Dhurrie before you, made in accordance with the centuries-old tradition, distinguishes itself with excellence unmatched by any state-of-the-art novelties. It was carefully knotted by hand of the finest cotton by a skilled artisan in order to imbue it with all the features reserved to dhurries. It is thick yet light, portable and easy to maintain. Moreover, due to the special weave, the piece is impenetrable to silverfish and other insects responsible for destroying carpets. If properly cared for, this Indian dhurrie will flawlessly serve its owners many years bringing in its exotic charm. In terms of design, this modern rug reflects the classic dhurrie aesthetics basing on the combination of off-white and blue. Such a color palette is perhaps the most widely applied as indigo – the famous natural blue dye – is a hallmark of Indian industry. The border adorned with the fret pattern and the main field embellished with simplified palmettes exude a serene and recherché vibe that will be desired in a wide array of interior arrangements. Doris Leslie Blau carries an exceptional collection of original modern rugs in many styles and materials. Contemporary hand-made rugs are a bridge throughout history, they are the fruit of the constant evolution of the weaving craft that has accompanied men since the dawn of civilization.
