Description
A very rare and special Swedish carpet - "Svart Primavera" was designed in 1920 at Märta's studio in Baståd and produced before her death in 1941. Geometric diamond & triangle pattern on dark brown round with pink, yellow, and green accents. This is such a fun rug! The fringes are perfectly imperfect, and I had one end fully repaired to its original pattern. This is a fine example of the rya weaving technique - the OG shag carpet.
Signed MMF. 90.5" x 52"
Artist: Märta Måås-Fjetterström designed some of the most important rugs of the 20th Century. The nature of the slopes of Hallandsåsen was a never-ending source of inspiration and with great artistic skill flowers & leaves were stylized to get their chosen place in the rich but still fully controlled splendor that came to make up her carpets. Her geometric patterns are highly sought-after and show the influence of antique Persian patterns. Her designs are found in the world's leading museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the V&A, and the National Museum in Stockholm. -
