Description
This lamp is absolutely wonderful...the details! From the Swedish Grace period of the 1920s, this piece is attributed to Just Andersen for it's whimsical elements and classic form. Made of heavy patinated brass with the most charming elements - a perfectly sculpted owl adorn the top of the stem, and at the base three roaring lions hold the base off the floor. Knowing Just Andersen, he may have added some extra copper into his alloy, as he was known to experiment with metals to bring warmth and softness to the material. I love this lamp. It is also totally adjustable, totally practical, and totally awesome.
Dimensions: 42" - 59" H x 9.75" W (at base) x 14" D, Includes new pleated silk shade:; 7" H x 8" Dia.
Just Andersen (b. Godhavn, Greenland 1884, d. Glostrup 1943): Few figures shaped early Scandinavian decorative arts as distinctly as Just Andersen. Born in Greenland and trained as a sculptor, Andersen began his career designing for Georg Jensen before establishing his own pewter workshop in 1918. He is best remembered for his elegant, neoclassical designs and as his infamous proprietary alloy: Disko! Named for Greenland's Disko Bay where he spent his childhood, Andersen's work combines sculptural forms with everyday function, and helped define Scandinavian design. Andersen earned an international audience through showrooms in Berlin, London, New York, and Los Angeles, and today his works have retained their charm and are collected by design lovers across the globe.
