Description
Art Deco reversed-etched glass tray featuring a finely detailed pastoral scene at its center, originating from Italy, circa 1940. The image is executed on the reverse of the glass, creating a smooth top surface while preserving the intricacy of the design beneath. The pastoral motif includes trees, regal figures, and stunning architectural elements, a stunning scene beautifully achieved in the reversed etching and pairs beautifully with the material aesthetics of the piece.
Framing the central panel is a twisted glass border, formed as a continuous rope-like band that adds texture, depth, and a subtle play of light along the perimeter. The tray is further accented by gilt bronze handles at each end, cast with clean Art Deco lines and a streamlined profile that balances the romantic pastoral imagery with modern geometric refinement.
This piece exemplifies late Art Deco aesthetics on the eve of mid‑century design: a harmonious blend of decorative elegance and functional sophistication. Suitable both as a practical serving tray and as a decorative object, it offers a refined glimpse into Italian decorative arts of the 1940s. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
