Description
Striking and highly collectible sculptural water pitcher designed by renowned Mexican silversmith Emilia Castillo, produced in Taxco, Mexico. This exceptional example of Mexican Modernism showcases Castillo’s signature fusion of organic form, mixed metals, and nature-inspired design.
Handcrafted in solid hammered copper, the exterior features a richly developed verdigris patina, creating a dynamic interplay of turquoise, brown, and oxidized tones. The body is adorned with applied silver-plated butterflies and flowing vine-like scrollwork, lending the piece a whimsical yet refined presence. The interior and decorative ice guard are finished in silver plate, offering a warm contrast to the oxidized exterior.
The hammered handle and rounded form emphasize the artisanal quality of the piece, while the sculptural silhouette elevates it beyond functional serveware into the realm of decorative art. This work exemplifies the legacy of Emilia Castillo, daughter of Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo, and a key figure in the evolution of Taxco silversmithing.
Stamped to the underside:
“Emilia Castillo, Mexico, M.R., TO-85, Plateado”
An exceptional addition for collectors of Mexican silversmithing and a standout accent for interior designers seeking statement objects with texture, patina, and artistic presence.
