Description
Striking vintage serving tray designed and manufactured in Taxco, Mexico in the 1980s by celebrated silversmith and designer Emilia Castillo. This sculptural piece is executed in hand-hammered silver-plated metal and features a richly patterned band of natural jasper stone inlay, displaying warm tones of red, cream, and earthy striations that create a bold contrast against the luminous silver surface.
The tray’s wide, low profile is complemented by elegantly flared integrated handles, giving it both functional versatility and a strong architectural presence. The hammered interior reflects light with subtle movement, while the jasper inlay introduces texture, color, and organic variation—hallmarks of Emilia Castillo’s distinctive approach to Mexican Modern design.
Hand-signed by Emilia Castillo, the piece also retains its original hallmark reading:
“Emilia Castillo, Mexico, M.R., Plateado, TO-85”—a clear indicator of authenticity and origin within the legacy of Taxco silversmithing.
As the daughter of master silversmith Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo, Emilia Castillo is known for elevating traditional Mexican silversmithing through the use of mixed materials such as stone, shell, and metal. Her work bridges artisanal heritage with modern design, making her pieces highly sought after by collectors and interior design professionals alike.
This tray functions beautifully as a serving piece, a bar tray, or as a statement decorative object in a curated interior—ideal for coffee tables, ottomans, or dining settings.
Dimensions:
Width: 17 in
Depth: 16.25 in
Height: 3.75 in
