Description
An exceptional and increasingly scarce pair of Emilia Castillo serving utensils, handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico, showcasing the artist's signature blend of sculptural artistry and functional design. This rare TO-85 pattern features beautifully modeled verdigris parrots with warm copper beaks and brass detailing, elegantly perched atop hand-hammered silver-plated serving pieces. One utensil serves as a solid server while the companion features a pierced design, making the set ideal for serving fish, vegetables, or composed dishes.
Castillo's work transformed the tradition of Mexican silversmithing by merging fine craftsmanship, modern sculpture, and whimsical natural forms. Drawing inspiration from the rich artistic legacy of Taxco while forging her own distinctive aesthetic, Emilia Castillo became one of the most influential designers working in Mexico during the late 20th century. Her handcrafted objects are celebrated internationally for their exceptional quality, imaginative motifs, and collectible appeal. Today, her works are sought after by collectors of Mexican silver, Taxco design, mixed-metal decorative arts, and modern handcrafted tableware.
Each utensil is individually hand-finished with a richly textured hammered surface that beautifully reflects light, while the sculptural parrot handles display a naturally aged verdigris patina that enhances their character and visual depth. The combination of silverplate, copper, brass, and oxidized finishes exemplifies Castillo's masterful use of mixed metals and organic forms.
