Byoung Yong Lee “Two Black Eggs” 1989
-
Description
This elegant watercolor on paper, entitled“Two Black Eggs”, was realized by the esteemed Korean artist Byoung Yong Lee in 1989. It features three overlapping ovoid forms, representing abstracted interpretations of bird eggs. The outer two ovoid forms are rendered in black with lightly serrated gray perimeters, where the paint has bled, which the central form has been painted in a dove gray. With its beautiful simplicity and refined monochromatic palate, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. The work is signed Byoung Yong Lee Lower Right in Pencil and dated 1989. It comes presented in a custom white gilt gallery frame and is in excellent vintage condition.
Byoung Yong Lee received his BFA in Fine Arts from Hong-Ik University, Seoul in 1973 and his MFA from New York's Pratt Institute in 1986. Lee's work combines the painterly abstraction predominant in Paris in the 1950's with a traditional Korean emphasis on technique.
