C. Riboud Mid-Century Cubist Abstract Painting, Architectural Composition

$ 1,899
  • Description
    A bold and lyrical abstract composition by the French painter C. Riboud, rendered in a rich palette of vermilion, ochre, cobalt, sage green, and deep aubergine. Interlocking biomorphic and geometric forms — a heart-like red shape, curved yellow and lilac petals, and hard-edged triangular planes — are arranged with confident, gestural brushwork across the sheet, the visible deckled edge of the paper left exposed within the mat.

    The composition balances organic curvature against angular structure, recalling the vocabulary of mid-century French abstraction, with a warm, saturated color sensibility. The surface shows lively, textured impasto in the white and ochre passages, contrasted against smoother fields of blue-gray in the background.

    Signed "C. Riboud" in pencil at the lower left. Presented in a gold-tone carved frame with a wide double mat, ready to hang.
    Presented in a giltwood frame with beaded and foliate-carved molding, double matted.
