Modern Murrina Glass Vase by La Murrina, Italy, 1996

An exceptional example of Murano millefiori glasswork by La Murrina, one of the island's most celebrated contemporary glassmaking houses. This vase is worked entirely in the murrina technique — cross-sections of intricately layered colored glass canes fused together to form individual floral and geometric patterns, then assembled into a continuous mosaic-like surface, a labor-intensive method requiring exceptional skill and precision.

The vase takes a footed, urn-like silhouette, its generous ovoid body rising from a ribbed glass knop to a gently flared, trumpet-form neck. The body is composed of vertical bands of distinct millefiori patterns rendered in a soft, neutral palette of white, pale blue, sage green, and ochre-gold — small floral murrine and repeating square and circular motifs alternate in orderly columns, giving the piece a textile-like, almost woven visual rhythm. The rim shades from the patterned body into a translucent aqua-green at the top, while the circular foot below continues the millefiori decoration in complementary tones of white, blue, and dusty rose, all suffused with a rich scattering of gold leaf throughout that catches the light across the entire piece.

This example is a documented, unique piece: it is signed and numbered 51/A, accompanied by its original paper certificate reading "Prezioso e unico esemplare annoverato sul 'Book' La Murrina" ("Precious and unique example recorded in the 'Book' of La Murrina"), dated 1996 — confirming its status as a one-of-a-kind work individually catalogued by the maker.
