C. Riboud Mid-Century Cubist Abstract Painting, Architectural Composition

Description
A vibrant, architecturally-inspired abstract composition built from interlocking blocks of color — deep cobalt and ultramarine blues, ochre and mustard yellow, coral and brick red, set against passages of soft white and grey. The composition reads as a cityscape or townscape distilled into pure geometry: arched openings, stacked rectangular forms suggesting windows and façades, and a strong vertical black element anchoring the center of the canvas like a chimney, mast, or figure moving through the scene. The palette is warm and sun-bleached, evocative of Mediterranean or North African architecture — whitewashed walls, blue-shadowed archways, and sunlit ochre stone — rendered with confident, visible brushwork and firm, flat planes of color in the Cubist tradition.
The painting is signed lower left "C. Riboud" and presented in a substantial period frame combining a dark outer molding with an inner gilt liner, giving the composition a formal, gallery-ready presentation. The work's structural approach to color and form — breaking an architectural subject into a rhythm of interlocking blocks — places it firmly within the language of mid-20th-century Cubist and post-Cubist abstraction, applied here to a warm, light-filled southern subject rather than the cooler urban settings more typical of the movement's Parisian originators.
