Still Life of Raspberries.
Signed (l.r.): L.W. Prentice.
Oil on canvas.
6” x 8”, 12” x 14” with frame.
Excellent condition, housed in a custom 19th c. style gilt frame.
Provenance: Private Collection, Connecticut; Purchased from Gerald Peters Gallery, 1996.
An exceptional, crisp, tightly painted small still life of raspberries spilling out of a basket. Prentice has revealed his clarity and precision in this composition.
Born in Lewis County, New York where he was raised on a farm, Prentice began his career as a self-taught artist painting landscapes, although he became known for his still life images of fruit growing on trees or falling out of baskets.
