Anna-Lisa Thomson Feather Pattern Ceramic Table Lamp, Upsala-Ekeby Sweden, 1940s

$ 2,000
  • Description
    This rare table lamp was designed by Anna-Lisa Thomson and produced by Upsala-Ekeby in Sweden in the 1940s.

    The gourd-shaped ceramic base has a double-bulbed silhouette, with a fuller lower body narrowing at the waist before swelling again into a smaller upper bulb. It is hand-decorated with a vertical sgraffito feather pattern, incised in tight chevron rows that run the full height of the piece. The glossy white glaze pools over the raised ridges and settles into the incised grooves, letting the red earthenware body show through as a soft rust-pink outline that gives the pattern crisp definition against the white ground. The base is mounted with a brass fitting and a renewed E26/E27 bulb fitting. The lamp is fitted with a new coral-red shade in an empire silhouette.

    The lamp is in very good condition with only minimal wear consistent with age and use. Rewired with 220V wiring and a new shade.
