A subtle vertical seam runs the length of the cone-shaped shaft, a hallmark of the meticulous saddle-stitched leather technique associated with Jacques Adnet, whose leather-wrapped lighting and furniture designs epitomized the restrained, luxurious minimalism of French Art Deco and its transition into midcentury modernism.
Adnet, who took over the artistic direction of the Compagnie des Arts Français in the 1930s, was renowned for wrapping everyday forms — lamps, mirrors, desk accessories — in fine saddle leather with visible stitching, elevating utilitarian objects into refined decorative statements.
