Description
This rare floor lamp was produced by ASEA Belysning in Sweden in the 1950s. It is marked with ASEA and the component numbers, stamped on both the underside of the base and the brass swivel joint. The design shares stylistic similarities with lamps Hans Bergström designed for ASEA during the same period.
The design centers on a circular brass foot and a central column in solid teak, tapering into an organic, sculpted profile at the lower end. A slender brass arm rises from the column to the shade holder, which is finished with a band of X-shaped perforations, a detail typical of ASEA lamps and one that casts a nice pattern of light when lit. The shade is mounted on a swivel joint, allowing it to be tilted to different angles. It has been fitted with a new ivory Dedar fabric, chosen for its subtle woven texture.
The lamp is in overall very good condition, with a natural, even patina developed across the brass. The shade has been renewed. The lamp is currently wired for 220V European use. -
