Description
Crafted in the mid-20th century, by Bertil Brisborg, this model "15624" table lamp is a striking example of postwar Scandinavian design. The period was marked by a commitment to functionalism, clean lines, and a nuanced interplay of materials.
From the clean lines and the brass structure to the leather wrapped stem, this model is timeless. Swedish lighting manufacturers were masters of creating designs with great textural and chromatic variety as this table lamp shows: the pairing of brass and leather creates an interesting visual effect, where the traditional look of the organic material meets the modern look of brass. The twisted dark brown leather wraps around the stem from the very base of the lamp with its textured look contrasting beautifully against the patinated brass and green lampshade. The wide-brimmed shade is both decorative and functional, the choice of green adds a unique touch to the otherwise streamlined look. Furthermore, the shade directs the light downwards and prevents any glare, emphasizing the beauty of the colour and texture of the brass and leather body even further when the light is turned on.
Thanks to Brisborg and Böhlmarks’ masterful sense of proportion, this model is perfectly balanced visually. Apart from the aesthetics, the quality of this table lamp is also true to its Scandinavian heritage. Adding illumination to a living space with this piece will certainly improve the ambience of any interior.
