Pendant Lamp LS 195 by Carlo Nason by AV Mazzega, Italy 1970s

$ 4,151
  • Description
    A suspended composition of glass and light, the LS 195 pendant by Carlo Nason for AV Mazzega captures the experimental spirit of Murano lighting during the 1960s and 1970s. The softly folded opaline glass evokes the movement of fabric or melting ice, giving the lamp an almost weightless appearance when illuminated. Nason’s work for Mazzega often centred around the expressive qualities of hand-formed glass, balancing sculptural presence with atmospheric light.

    Design
    Produced by AV Mazzega, the pendant features a freeform Murano glass shade with an iridescent opaline finish that shifts between pale blue, pearl and translucent white tones. Rather than relying on strict geometry, the silhouette falls organically into soft waves and folds, creating changing reflections from every angle. Tiny air inclusions and subtle irregularities within the glass surface underline the artisanal production process and reinforce the individuality of the piece.

    Carlo Nason belonged to a long lineage of Murano glassmakers and became known for introducing more fluid and contemporary forms into Venetian lighting design. In this model, the glass appears almost draped around the central light source, diffusing illumination into a warm and atmospheric glow. Chrome-plated details provide a restrained contrast against the organic character of the shade. Suspended above a dining table, in an entrance hall or within a quieter architectural interior, the lamp functions equally as a source of light and as a sculptural object.

    The LS 195 reflects the broader evolution of Italian lighting during the period, where craftsmanship and experimentation became closely intertwined.

    Condition
    The pendant remains in very good vintage condition with light signs of age and use visible on the metal canopy and fittings. The Murano glass shade is well preserved without notable damage and retains its original iridescent surface.
