Description
The Art Deco geometric frosted glass starburst pendant chandelier, in nickeled bronze and signed Degué, France, circa 1930, is an extraordinary example of sophisticated design from the golden age of Art Deco. With its dramatic starburst motif and sharp, angular lines, this chandelier embodies the defining characteristics of the movement: bold geometry, modern elegance, and a celebration of craftsmanship.
The frosted glass radiates a soft, diffused light, while the stylized Cubist detailing introduces layered textures and dimensionality that highlight the piece's architectural quality. These sharp, clean patterns create a sense of motion and dynamism, capturing the progressive spirit of the 1920s and 1930s Art Deco aesthetic. The design merges functionality with high artistry, exemplifying the movement’s balance between form and utility.
The chandelier is signed "Degué," a mark belonging to David Guéron, founder of one of France’s prominent Art Deco glass studios. Active during the early 20th century, Degué was known for its innovative lighting fixtures that married modernist ideals with the timeless craftsmanship of French glassmaking. The studio’s works often rival those of contemporaries such as Lalique and Daum, and this piece is no exception to its high standard of quality and design.
Dating to around 1930, this piece stands as a testament to the luxurious interiors of the Art Deco era, when pieces like this chandelier were crafted to serve as both functional lighting and striking decorative elements. Its angular starburst design, coupled with expertly frosted surfaces, makes it a sophisticated centerpiece for any space. A rare and collectible treasure, this Degué chandelier is perfect for enthusiasts of Art Deco, vintage lighting, or fine French design. This chandelier has been newly rewired to American Standards, accommodating 16 Candelabra base bulbs achieving up to 960 watts of light, with height that can be adjusted to suit.
