Description
A George Nelson uniquely scaled Half Nelson table lamp custom made by Koch & Lowy.
The standard George Nelson Half Nelson has a fixed overall height of 19" and a shade diameter of 15".
This lamp has a shade measuring 22.5" and an adjustable shade height allowing a fifteen inch rise from 19 to 34" ( see image 3 and image 4) excluding the swivel of the shade.
The shade attachment for this lamp's shade is different than the production shade attachment, the production attachment is fixed whereas there is adjustment slide on this lampshade.
The last two images show the OMI stamp on the swivel on this lamp and the swivel on an early production Koch and Lowy Half Nelson.
Ernest Lowy founded American lighting company, Koch & Lowy in 1946. The company was known for manufacturing innovative contemporary and modern luminaries. During the 1960s, Koch & Lowy purchased the lighting company OMI. Ernest Lowy's son, Thomas, sold the business in the 1990s.
The lamp is in excellent vintage condition as pictured. -
