Art Deco Cubist Silvered Bronze and Frosted Glass Chandelier by Georges Leleu
-
Description
This stunning high style Art Deco skyscraper style chandelier was realized by the esteemed atelier of Georges Leleu in France circa 1930. It features a convex striated bottom shade that connects to an octagonal frame with similar channel detailing. The shades- full of wonderful curvilinear cubist detailing- are secured via tapered supports with bead forms that diminish in size to the apex of each. The body of the chandelier connects to a skyscraper style canopy with stylized acanthus detailing around the base with stepped silvered bronze embellishments- reminiscent of a metropolitan skyline- descending downwards. This piece embodies the fastidious craftsmanship and refined glamour of a bygone era. The chandelier looks out of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" appearing as modern today as when it was created by Leleu nearly a century ago. It has been newly rewired to American standards and is in excellent condition. The height can be adjusted to suit.
