Description
This striking table lamp, designed by Goffredo Reggiani for Reggiani Illuminazione, exemplifies the elegant simplicity and modernist refinement of Italian mid-century lighting design.
Known as the “Egg” lamp, it features a beautifully rounded form crafted from Murano opaline glass. The soft milky translucence diffuses light gently, creating a warm and ambient glow which adds a serene atmosphere to any space. The use of Murano glass, renowned for its quality and artisinal heritage, adds a layer of luxury and historical value to this piece. Murano glass is an art form that is still handmade by highly skilled master artisans today; therefore owning a Murano glass piece also means being a part of a long Venetian tradition. The organic and sculptural shape of this table lamp also reflects the era’s fascination with biomorphic design. The seamless glass form rests atop a minimal patinated brass base, allowing the “Egg” shape to stand out. Its minimal silhouette speaks to Reggiani’s modernist philosophy of prioritising function, form, and timeless design. This piece works as both a functional light and a piece of sculptural art. A well-chosen lighting piece can change the overall look of a room and how it feels to inhabit the space. This model is the perfect addition to bring a touch of elegance to any space without it being overwhelming. Its level of craftsmanship and unique character make it a timeless example of Italian mid-century lighting design.
Whether styled in a contemporary or vintage interior, this “Egg” lamp remains a testament to the enduring appeal of Reggiani Illuminazione and the golden age of modernism. Goffredo Reggiani’s work for the company continues to be celebrated for its innovative craftsmanship.
