A rare and beautiful floor lamp in brass (rattan on the stem) and rattan shade, designed by Gunnel Nyman and manufactured by Idman. This was often mistaken for a Tynell due to very little documentation, but as the Design Museum recently aquired and published G. Nyman archives, it was established that this and a few more models from Idman catalogues were designed by Nyman and produced only by Idman. The lamp is in good condition and has beautiful vintage patina. The brass parts were polished at some point and the rattan shade renewed. For even a rarer version in full brass, please take a look at our other items, Gunnel Nyman Lamp model 62044.
Gunnel Nyman (1909 – 1948) was a Finnish glass, furniture and metal artist, and one of the founders of modern Finnish glass design. She was also one of the biggest names in th Finnish modern design movement of the early 20th century. Unfortunately, due to her premature death at 39, and eventhough she managed to design numerous beautiful objects, she also left us with a sense of owe and wonder to what she could've designed with a linger career.
