Description
A refined and atmospheric pair of floor lamps designed by Swedish lighting master Hans-Agne Jakobsson for Markaryd executed in brass with elegant slatted wood shades and original acrylic diffusers. The beautifully tapered shades create a warm and softly filtered illumination, while the slender brass stems and weighted circular bases give the lamps a restrained sculptural presence synonymous with Scandinavian modern design.
The shades are height adjustable, allowing for versatile placement and functionality, and have been professionally reupholstered on their original frames. The brass surfaces retain a rich and authentic live patina that complements the natural warmth of the wood shades beautifully. Original acrylic diffusers remain intact and contribute to the lamps’ gentle, ambient light quality.
Both lamps are in good vintage condition with light age-related wear consistent with use. Each example is stamped to the underside. An elegant and highly collectible pair that works equally well in sophisticated residential interiors, hospitality settings, or curated modernist spaces.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a Swedish interior architect and furniture designer, widely celebrated for his refined mid-century lighting. Born in Havdhem, Gotland, he trained as a cabinetmaker before studying architecture in Gothenburg and later working with figures such as Carl Malmsten. In 1951, he founded his lighting company in Markaryd, Småland.
Jakobsson’s workshop became known for meticulously crafted brass and glass fixtures designed to emit warm, glare-free light. His philosophy extended to every detail—believing that even the ceiling cup deserved a designer’s consideration. Today, his lighting designs are regarded as quintessential examples of Scandinavian modernism, combining functionality with a quiet, poetic elegance. -
