Ignazio Gardella, floor lamp TLE8 for Azucena, Italy, 1956ca.
-
Description
The TLE8 model, presented here, is part of a series of floor lamps designed by Ignazio Gardella in the second half of the 1950s and manufactured by Azucena. The features are fairly similar across all models: they are, in fact, variations, always using the same materials. A marble base, which has the weight to support and balance the weight of the lamp, a brass stem (or, as in the TLE8 model, brown lacquered iron), and a lampshade made of worked glass. In this case, the sphere, which opens to change the bulbs, is made of sandblasted and printed prismatic glass, with a horizontal motif on one hemisphere and a vertical one on the other. The lamp is in good condition, having been rewired. The switch is the original. The marble base has undergone a small restoration in one corner, as can be seen in one of the detail photos.
