Description
The MaMo Nouchies table lamp, designed by Ingo Maurer in 1998, exemplifies his exploration of light as a sculptural and poetic medium. The shade is crafted from delicate Japanese paper, shaped into an elongated, organic form that appears to float above its minimal support. The irregular, hand-formed surface diffuses light softly, creating a warm and atmospheric glow while emphasizing the material’s fragility and translucency.
Maurer’s work consistently challenges the boundaries between design, art, and installation. With the MaMo Nouchies series, he moved away from rigid typologies, embracing spontaneity and organic expression. Each piece carries subtle variations, reinforcing its artisanal character. The lamp functions not only as a source of light but as a spatial intervention, where form, material, and illumination interact to create a dynamic and ever-changing presence.
