Description
This pair of Mid-Century Modernist tessellated lizard table lamps, designed by renowned American designer Karl Springer, showcases his distinctive mastery in combining exotic materials with sleek, modernist forms. Crafted circa 1980, these lamps encapsulate Springer's ability to create luxurious yet functional art pieces, perfectly suited for upscale interiors of the era.
The lamp bases are meticulously covered in tessellated lizard skin, arranged in geometric patterns that highlight the natural texture and uniqueness of the material. The organic quality of the lizard skin adds depth and intrigue, while the precision of the tessellation reflects Springer's attention to detail and craftsmanship. Stunningly applied, the triangular stacked motif created by the natural shape of the hides is a testament to Springer's skill in bridging the gap between natural materials and sleek geometric forms.
Complementing the skin are bronze fittings, offering a striking contrast and grounding the design in a sense of refinement. The bronze adds warmth and timeless elegance to the lamps, while also reinforcing their overall sculptural aesthetic. The bold-yet-understated mix of textures ensures their compatibility with a variety of interior styles, from minimalist modern to eclectic maximalist.
These lamps are not only functional lighting pieces but also statement objects that highlight Karl Springer's pioneering approach to luxury design during the late 20th century. Whether placed on side tables or a console, they bring an air of sophistication and exclusivity, making them coveted collector’s items within the world of 1980s American design. Newly rewired to American Standards, these lamps accommodate two edison base bulbs each, achieving up to 200 watts of light, fitted with Custom Gallery Shades. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
