Adustable Pendants by Lisa Johansson-Pape

These pendants are simply magical! Designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape, the pleated fabric shade is a wonderful example of her innovative approach to lighting and her ability to create an incredibly warm, atmospheric glow. The shade is made using a pulled-thread technique, creating an open-weave pattern that allows the light to softly peek through the fabric. When illuminated, the effect is almost ethereal.

And then there’s the pulley mechanism, which is both clever and wonderfully practical. The pendant can be pulled down when you need more light and easily raised again using the attached brass handle. Functional design at its best - a detail that makes these lamps especially fun to live with.

Lisa-Johansson-Pape (b. 1907 d. 1989): One of Finland's most innovative lighting designers, using war-time rations she mixed materials and created shapes that brought her designs worldwide fame. "A lamp is not the actual purpose, but more like an instrument. It must fulfill its purpose as a provider of light, but at the same time, it must also satisfy the aesthetic demands. A good light fixture must be simple, and its structure and function must be both neat and correct."
