Description
If you love a good patina, you will adore this lamp. She is so chic, like a slim woman in a giant hat, pushing the limits of balance and proportion. I believe this is a marriage of 2 lamps by Orno: the 2056 designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape in 1951, with a shade from lamp no. 35 made with individually woven wooden slats (see image of catalog page). Totally unique! Also, the brass stem has a charming spiral etched into it, giving the lamp a beautiful sense of movement. This one is really special.
Overall Height: 25" / Shade diameter: 22.5"
Lisa-Johansson-Pape (b. 1907 d. 1989): Likely the most significant Finnish lighting designer of the latter half of the 20th century, Lisa designed an unusually wide collection for the lighting factory Orno Oy, and explored new ideas about the principles of lighting and artificial light. The energetic Johansson-Pape was a prominent organizational person who tirelessly participated in many activities promoting Finnish design, including lifting up the works of fellow female artisans and designers. Her work in glass lamps won the gold prize at the 1954 Milan Triennale (I have one of these!), & in 1957 Johansson-Pape was awarded the Pro Finlandia prize.S he founded the Finnish Lighting Society and served as the artistic director of the Friends of Finnish Crafts from 1951 to 1985. -
