Description
Elegant sculptural bronze table lamp produced by Maison Charles in the 1970s, featuring the brand's signature botanical motif. The central shaft rises from a square stepped base into a stylized lotus leaf, rendered in textured cast bronze. The leaves form a decorative transition between the base and the shade support, a common design language in Maison Charles lighting from the late 1960s–1970s.
The lamp is topped with a cylindrical brass shade that produces a warm downward glow, accentuating the relief texture of the leaves when illuminated.
Stamped on the underside: “CHARLES – MADE IN FRANCE.”
Maison Charles was a renowned French lighting and decorative arts manufacturer founded in Paris in 1908 by Ernest Charles. Initially specializing in finely crafted bronze fixtures, the firm became particularly influential in the mid-20th century under the direction of Philippe Charles. Maison Charles developed a distinctive aesthetic combining classical French decorative traditions with modern forms, often incorporating natural motifs such as palm leaves, bamboo, pineapples, and lotus elements rendered in bronze or brass. During the 1960s–1970s the company gained international recognition through collaborations with luxury interior designers and prestigious retailers. Today, vintage Maison Charles lighting is highly sought after for its craftsmanship, sculptural quality, and refined patinated finishes.
