Description
FRENCH GILT BRONZE TRIPOD FLOOR LAMP BY MAISON RAMSAY, C.1940
#3031
Wonderful French Art Deco Tripod Floor Lamp In Gilt Bronze by Mason Ramsay
French Circa 1940
Although of relatively conventional form, what makes this lamp so interesting is the twisted thread decoration utilised throughout the piece. This decoration is very reminiscent of a sculptor's way of indicating drapery and this piece is certainly extremely sculptural in its form and design. The lamp is beautifully proportioned and is eye catching without overwhelming the space in which it is placed-in other words it is a perfect example of high quality functional design.
It has a twin lighting system having switching for an uplighter and conventional lighting.
Maison Ramsay was founded in the early 20th century but reached the peak of its success between c.1940 and c.1970. The firm is particularly associated with gilded metal work, utilising iron, bronze, steel and brass in its creations. The firm's products are highly sought-after today by an audience of collectors and decorators and we are delighted to be able to offer this fine example of the company's work to our clients.
