Description
A monumental floor lamp attributed to Paavo Tynell and made by Taito Oy. The lamp is not stamped Taito, however since we attribute it to Tynell, that basically means Taito. Another reason for the attribution is that the decorations on the lower brass part of the lamp are identical to Alvar Aalto designed hand pulls, that were also manufactured at Taito.
This is one of the largest and most prominent lamps we have ever acquired during the past few years (please see photo with normal Tynell lamp for scale). It was originally in an officer's club for the Finnish army. The lamp is quite large and very heavy, made from the finest materials with an intricately decorated brass base and curly silver birch that goes to show this lamp was made to impress and not just for everyday use or smaller corners. Although not a documented lamp, the metal work, decoration and other parts clearly show Tynell's fingerprints.
The lamp has three bulbs and the shade is remade in natural white with a diameter of approximately 65cm. The electric wiring and parts have been updated. -
