Pair of Large Stilnovo Wall Sconces in White Methacrylate

$ 4,400
  • Description
    Elegant pair of Italian wall sconces produced by Stilnovo, Italy, circa 1970s.

    Each fixture features a softly curved rectangular diffuser in white methacrylate, gently bowed outward from the wall to create a subtle architectural volume. The diffuser is secured by four projecting pins in black-painted brass, an understated yet graphic detail that contrasts crisply against the white surface.

    When illuminated, the methacrylate emits a warm, even glow, softly diffusing the four light sources within and creating ambient, atmospheric illumination. The form is restrained and geometric, characteristic of Stilnovo’s refined modernist language balancing technical precision with sculptural simplicity.

    Can also be installed on the ceiling.

    Founded in Milan in 1946 by Bruno Gatta, Stilnovo became one of the most influential Italian lighting manufacturers of the postwar period. The company collaborated with leading designers and engineers, combining technical innovation with refined modernist aesthetics. Known for its use of new materials, Stilnovo helped define mid-century Italian lighting design. Its work bridges rationalist clarity and expressive form, and today remains highly regarded among collectors and design historians.
