French 19th Century Gold Gilt Carved Ribbon Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 57 ⅜” H x 29 ¼” W x 3 ½” D
French 19th century gold gilt mantel mirror, the otherwise restrained silhouette of the frame with Louis Philippe rounded corners at the top has been crowned with a delicate ribbon crest more in the Louis XVI tradition. Two superimposed loops of ribbon (all carved and rippled like satin) trail across the width and are tied with bows in the middle. The gilded frame has an inviting warmth from the red bole underneath, and rests on a thick, plinth base. Note the glass is likely a modern replacement without the expected foxing or crystals.
