French 19th Century Large Art Nouveau Gilt Mirror

A dramatic French, late 19th century gold gilt mirror with original mirror glass framed by delicately carved foliate molding. The narrow molding incorporates scrolling vines of blooming flowers that come alive by the deep red bole exposed by the patination of the gold leaf. The result is a surprisingly organic effect of tactile variety with a shimmer of gold, drawing the viewer in for a closer look. Adding dimension to the original mirror glass are intermittent parallel lines of dark foxing and a random cloud toward the upper right which confirms the age. Just over six feet tall, the mirror would be perfect as a full length/floor mirror to expand the room, likewise make quite a statement over a fireplace mantel or buffet in a home with tall ceilings.
