Description
This rare wingback chair was produced in Sweden in the late 1940s. The design is attributed to Gustaf Axel Berg. The chair is documented in a 1950 advertisement of the upscale department store Wessels in Malmö. The elegant organic lines of the design create a striking silhouette. Its generous proportions and the high back make this a sumptuous and very comfortable armchair. The four tapered legs are in elm wood, with the back legs placed outwards in a distinct angle. The chair is in fully original condition and retains its original yellow wool upholstery with buttoned back. The upholstery is in overall reasonably good condition, with some minor wear and pilling of the fabric. Two small holes in the fabric on the top of the back, where previously a loose head cushion was attached. If desired, the chairs can be reupholstered in a fabric of your choice by our master upholsterer, please contact us to learn more about the possibilities. The elm legs with minor wear. Literature reference: Form, Svenska Slöjdföreningens Tidskrift, 1950, issue 1, page 91.
