Vernacular pine armchair from 19th-century France, originating from Saint-Véran in the Queyras, Hautes-Alpes. Built with a broad plank seat, substantial legs and a simple open back framed by curved armrests, the chair is defined by the directness of its construction. The deeply weathered pine, irregularities and visible traces of use give the piece a particularly expressive character, while old repairs and metal reinforcements form part of its material history. Its provenance in the Queyras places it within the Alpine region's longstanding tradition of vernacular woodworking, where furniture was made locally for everyday use and valued for durability and function rather than formal refinement. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
