18th Century Baroque Nutwood Chest Of Drawers, Austria ca. 1780

Remarkable late baroque/ classical chest of drawers from the late 18th century in Austria. This precious masterpiece of European baroque furniture was part of the inventory of a private owned castle. Artfully crafted in the period around 1780 - the so-called "Josephinism" era, this valuable, over 240 year old classical commode impresses with outstanding looking nutwood surfaces and elaborately set veneer works. This extraordinary example shows best the transition from the baroque to the famous empire period. The already straight designed (in contrast to the ornate baroque style) chest of drawers offers three large drawers, all elaborately veneered in fine nutwood by showing additional fields of darker walnut which build a fantastic contrast to the lighter nutwood around. Adorned by the artfully made, original brass fittings, the three lockable drawers offer a lot of storage space. Another great highlight of this baroque commode is the dresser´s top plate with its mirrormatched, fantastic looking framed pattern that can also be found on the two sides. An absolute dreamlike masterpiece from the 18th century, which extensive restoration took us quiet some time. Standing on artfully carved, solid nutwood feet, this valuable 18th century baroque chest of drawers comes in perfect restored condition with an incredible hand-polished shellac finish (french polish). Not only a very appealing 18th century masterpiece, much more, this unique baroque/ classical chest of drawers is also a great investment for the future.
