French 19th Century Burled Mahogany Empire Commode

$ 3,500
  • Description
    Dimensions: 33 ¾” H x 34 ¼” W x 19 ⅜” D

    A spectacular French Empire style petite commode from the 19th century made of bookmatched burl mahogany and decorative ormolu hardware. The commode’s top is dark, nearly black marble speckled with tiny fossilized inclusions like stars in the night sky. The overhanging frieze drawer uses an anthemion-design escutcheon over the working lock, one key included. Two pilaster columns ringed in brass capitals & bases flank the lower three locking drawers (sharing the same key as above between them) with brass knobs and wreath escutcheon plates. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, this antique storage piece is ready for its next home. Be sure to view the detailed images to appreciate the dazzling patterns of the wood grain, and see the current condition as the marble has a number of chips around the edges.
