Description
A charming Gustavian style writing desk from the late 19th century - early 20th century most probably of Swedish origin. The design features a rectangular top, a single central drawer and slender, tapering legs with recessed linear detailing. Its restrained proportions give the desk an elegant, airy appearance.
The later grey white painted finish is complemented by an ornamental brass keyhole escutcheon with ribbon and wreath details. Brass caps on the feet add a subtle decorative touch, balancing the simplicity of the wooden frame.
Lightweight and easy to move, the desk lends itself to a variety of settings. It would work beautifully as a writing table in a study or living room, a dressing table beneath a bedroom mirror, or a console in an entrance hall. The drawer provides useful storage for stationery or small personal items, while the pale finish sits comfortably alongside both antique and contemporary furnishings.
The painted surface displays wear, small marks and areas of exposed wood, while the brass fittings show patina. These details contribute to its antique character. Please refer to the photographs for the surface and construction details. - More Information
